Climate chaos? Bugs will thrive in an ever-warming world, say scientists
Biologists at Michigan State University (MSU) have been studying damselflies — which resemble dragonflies and are abundant as both predator and prey in wetlands — in order to understand what happens throughout their lifecycle from nymph to winged insect, along with what they eat, when summers grow warmer and longer, according to MSU Today.
Now, a new study from MSU suggests bugs will thrive in an ever-warming world.
Researchers discovered that damselflies were birthing an extra set of larvae each year to keep up with rapid changes of the world’s weather, according to SWNS, a British news agency, which also reported on the study.
ODD BUGS: FASCINATING FACTS ABOUT PRAYING MANTISES, WALKING STICKS AND OTHER UNIQUE-LOOK INSECTS
The lifecycles of the bugs from Michigan were shown to mirror those of their southern relatives living in warmer climates — and this was successfully keeping them alive, the same source reported.
This contradicts many scientific models that suggested global warming would doom predator-prey species such as the damselfly.
The MSU team felt that current predictions of the impact of climate change on animals were unrealistic — and that those predictions didn’t factor in how critters might behave differently in various temperatures.
Other models only simulated what would happen if damselflies lived a one-year lifecycle in a warmer world — concluding they would burn out, die, and potentially become extinct.
MSU’s team found the bugs could actually thrive if they birthed an extra generation each season.
The study's co-author Phoebe Zarnetske, an associate professor of integrative biology at MSU, said in a media statement, "We are seeing the pace of climate change is much more rapid than organisms have endured in their evolutionary experience."
GOOD LUCK OMENS! WHY THE PRAYING MANTIS, BUTTERFLY AND LADYBUG ARE THOUGHT TO BRING GOOD THINGS
She also said, "That rapid pace is going to be even more of an issue with the increase in extreme events like heat waves."
To build the new model, a mathematician worked on observational and experimental work in the field and laboratory to build a more robust model simulating the future for predators and prey, SWNS reported of the study.
By studying how temperature changes affect insects in the field, the team said it believes their predictions are much more realistic.
The research began when Dr. Laura Twardochleb, a pupil of Professor Zarnetske, spent a year watching damselflies' complex lives, SWNS said.
ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, APRIL 22, 1970, FIRST EARTH DAY, IS CELEBRATED: ‘RARE POLITICAL ALIGNMENT’
The insects emerge as adults from ponds in the spring — then mate and reproduce. The juveniles spend over a year in a pond growing by eating zooplankton.
Dr. Twardochleb saw that early models projecting how warming climates would affect predators such as the damselfly were far simpler than the nature she was observing.
They didn’t allow for the north’s changing seasons.
They also did not keep track of a predator’s size, growth or how their lifestyle changed with the hotter weather, SWNS noted.
Professor Chris Klausmeier, a mathematician and theoretical ecologist at MSU, incorporated Dr. Twardochleb’s observations with his own theory.
He said, "I can make up any model I want unconstrained by reality. But that’s a little dangerous because of course you want something related to the real world," according to SWNS reporting.

"When you join with an experimentalist, you can bring not just the experimental results and parameters, but also bring the deep natural history and knowledge to the system to know the key variables and constraints."
Dr. Twardochleb wrote in Proceedings of the Royal Society B Biological Sciences, a research journal, that the team had laid the groundwork for future investigations into how various species will adapt to a warmer world, particularly disease-carrying mosquitoes.
She added, as SWNS also reported, "A lot of models said predators were going to starve. That’s what’s exciting — that we can make models more realistic."

Boston SatanCon-goers shred Bible, pro-cop flag during opening ritual: ‘Hail Satan!’
A group of Satanists cheered as two leaders opened SatanCon 2023 on Friday with a formal ceremony renouncing "symbols of oppression" by ripping up a Bible and a "Thin Blue Line" flag representing police.
"We stand here today in defiance of their siege and destroy their symbols of oppression," a female leader told the crowd before ripping pages out of the Bible and throwing them on the floor, video showed.
A male leader joined her in then tearing a "Thin Blue Line" flag in two, which they also tossed on the floor while the crowd cheered. Satanists in attendance later picked some of the ripped pages off the floor and posed with them for pictures.
"We must build true community outside of the virtual," the male leader also said before taking a hammer to a keyboard. "Rebelling comes in many forms to each and their own within their own capabilities and their own situation. For some of us, merely existing one more day is victory, but for those of us who can, we must stand up for those who cannot."
SatanCon, a sold-out three-day event has been touted as the "largest satanic gathering in history," is being hosted this weekend at the Marriott Copley Place in Boston by The Satanic Temple. The event, which marks the Temple's 10-year anniversary, was dedicated to Democratic Boston Mayor Michelle Wu after the group wasn't allowed to deliver a satanic invocation at a City Council meeting in 2021.
The Temple claims to be a nontheistic religious organization that does not worship or believe in a personal Satan, but rather aims to "encourage benevolence and empathy, reject tyrannical authority, advocate practical common sense, oppose injustice, and undertake noble pursuits."
The conference has been replete with numerous guest speakers and lectures, many of which were dedicated to far-left identity politics.

"Sins of the Flesh: Satanism and Self-Pleasure" was taught by Eric Sprankle, a "sexuality studies" professor at Minnesota State University-Mankato. "Reclaiming the Trans Body: A/theistic strategies for Self-Determination and Empowerment," was offered by University of South Carolina-Aiken Associate Professor of Philosophy Devi B. Dillard-Wright, a transgender woman.
Another event included "Hellbillies: Visible Satanism in Rural America," which will be taught by Ash Schade, a transgender man who made headlines when he had a baby "after hooking up with someone on Grindr," according to The College Fix.
CHRISTIAN ‘PRAYER WARRIORS’ RAISE ALARM OVER BOSTON'S SATANCON 2023: ‘USING THE SUPERNATURAL’
SatanCon has been met with pushback from some Christian groups such as Intercessors for America, whose regional leaders in Boston told the Christian Post they felt called to pray for the souls of the attendees.
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston also called for "intense prayer" in response to the event, according to Catholic News Agency. The archdiocese advised Catholics to avoid engaging with the Satanists at the event.
"We ask Catholics not to organize or encourage others to go to the event to protest. It will only make it more prominent and give the organizers the attention they seek," a press release from the archdiocese said.
"Rather than protesting in person, we hope to storm the Heavens with prayer from our shrines, monasteries, and parishes," the archdiocese continued, and offered a list of places to pray with other Catholics over the weekend the convention takes place.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says he opposes biological males competing in women's sports
Twenty-one states have banned transgender females from participating in girls and women's sports, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. wants that number to rise.
The son of the former New York senator appeared on CNN Saturday morning and said he opposes biological males participating in female sports.
"I am against people participating in women's sports who are biologically male," the Democratic presidential candidate said. "I think women have worked too hard to develop women's sports over the past 30 years. I watched it happen, and I don't think that's fair."

The House passed legislation aimed at preventing biological males from competing as transgender athletes in girls and women’s sports at schools across the country last week after a debate in which several Democrats accused Republicans of "bullying" transgender students by calling up the bill.
The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act passed in a 219-203 vote. All the yes votes came from Republicans, and all the no votes came from Democrats. But President Biden has said he would veto the bill if it were to arrive on his desk.

Earlier this week, one Democrat blocked the Senate from passing legislation that would prevent biological males from competing as transgender athletes on girls’ and women’s sports teams at schools and universities.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., who was head football coach at the University of Mississippi and Auburn University, urged unanimous consent to pass the bill.
Tuberville noted that he started out as a girls basketball coach and saw firsthand how important Title IX was in giving girls and women opportunities in sports.

White Sox's Liam Hendriks dominates in first outing since becoming cancer-free
Liam Hendriks is picking up right where he left off.
Less than 10 days after announcing he was in remission from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, the Chicago White Sox closer returned to the mound in an extended Spring Training game and dominated.
The three-time All-Star struck out four batters in his first appearance on a mound this year.
CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM
Hendriks announced on Jan. 8 that he had been diagnosed with the disease, but it was less than three months later that he rang the bell in a hospital to celebrate finishing chemotherapy.
On April 20, he told his fans he was "cancer free"
"REMISSION," Hendriks wrote in an Instagram post that had videos and pictures of him going through his treatment. "It’s official. I’m cancer free."
ESPN FIRES MLB REPORTER AFTER SHE CALLED ANOTHER WRITER A 'F---ING C--T'
"You never think you will be the one who hears ‘you have cancer’ but there I was … in shock and fear not knowing what comes next," he wrote on Instagram. "I started treatment after SO many life altering appointments on January 9th, 2023. Every 28 days, I would have another round. Every 28 days, I got closer to the PET scan that would dictate how many more rounds there would be. Every 28 days, I got closer to this moment.
"These past 5 months have been both the quickest and slowest of my life. Being able to ring this victory bell has been one of the most emotional things I’ve ever done. I cannot thank my team of doctors and nurses enough for coming up with the best medical plan for me. No words can express the gratitude I have for them saving my life."
It's been a rough go for the White Sox thus far, as they are just 7-20. But when Hendriks returns, the South Siders will be getting one of baseball's most dominant relievers.
Hendriks has made the trip to each of the three last All-Star Games. (There was none in 2020.) Since the start of the 2019 season, he's pitched to a 2.26 ERA while striking out 13.5 batters per nine innings and posting a 0.88 WHIP.
Hendriks remains on the 15-day IL, but those 15 days are up, so Hendriks will likely begin a rehab assignment soon and be up with the big league club sooner rather than later.

After failing to close out at home, Kraken travel to Colorado to face defending champion Avalanche in Game 7
It took six games of these playoffs for the Colorado Avalanche to finally look the part of a defending Stanley Cup champion.
Colorado’s reward? A trip back home for Game 7 and the chance to dispatch the pesky Seattle Kraken.
Mikko Rantanen scored his seventh goal of the playoffs, Artturi Lehkonen scored twice, including an empty-net goal in the closing seconds, and the Avalanche beat the Kraken 4-1 on Friday night in their first-round playoff series.
CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM
Rantanen scored in the final seconds of the first period, tying it at 1 after Seattle posted the first goal yet again. The Avalanche then dominated the final two periods, flashing some of what made them Stanley Cup champs a season ago.
PANTHERS' OFFENSE EXPLODES, STAY ALIVE IN SERIES WITH GAME 6 WIN OVER BRUINS
"I don’t think we’ve had a full 60 (minutes) yet, a full, good 60, and today we did. We played three good periods, even though they scored the first goal again, but we (stuck) with it and played to our identity," Rantanen said.
Erik Johnson scored his first of the playoffs on a deflected shot 7:21 into the second. Lehkonen redirected Devon Toews' slap pass at 16:57 to give Colorado a 3-1 lead. Toews had two assists, as did Cale Makar after being suspended for Game 5.
"We reiterated it after the game. Any time we’ve had adversity, we’ve said we’re going to take it one step at a time and go right at it," Makar said. "Huge character win for us tonight, hopefully gave a lot of guys confidence in terms of what we’re able to do out there."
Game 7 will be Sunday in Denver. It’s the first Game 7 in franchise history for Seattle and the first for the Avalanche since the second round of the 2020 playoffs in the bubble, when Colorado lost to Dallas.
"It's a new opportunity for this group, and we've been a good road team all year. That's been a strength of this team," Seattle's Jordan Eberle said. "We've got nothing to lose."
STARS BOUNCE WILD IN 6 WITH 4-1 WIN BEHIND HINTZ, OETTINGER
Vince Dunn became the 14th different player to score a goal for Seattle this postseason when he slipped a slap shot past Colorado goalie Alexandar Georgiev at 15:48 of the first. Dunn was second in points for Seattle during the regular season but had been held without a point until scoring his third career playoff goal.
But Georgiev’s night was mostly quiet, although he made big stops on Oliver Bjorkstrand and Jaden Schwartz in the final minutes. Georgiev finished with 22 saves.
"They deserved tonight's win. They played well. They were a little bit better than we were, and we couldn’t push our way back into the game," Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said.
Seattle goalie Philipp Grubauer was peppered all night, and only some spectacular saves kept the score from getting out of hand. Grubauer finished with 35 stops.
Colorado played in their first elimination game since Game 6 of the 2021 conference semifinals, when the Avs were eliminated by Vegas. One of the most impressive parts of Colorado’s run to the Stanley Cup last year was its ability to control every series.
But Seattle’s win in Game 5 put Colorado in a precarious position, and the Avs responded with their most complete performance of the series.
"We just wanted to play our game, we played our best game of the series and were rewarded for it," Johnson said. "And they’re a very good team, they really put us on our heels at times. But it felt good to play our game and get rewarded for it."

Bing censored more search results in China than did domestic rival platforms, new study finds
A new report found that Microsoft’s Bing search engine restricted search results more than any other platform among eight China-accessible platforms analyzed by the University of Toronto.
"These findings call into question the ability of non-Chinese technology companies to better resist censorship demands than their Chinese counterparts," the report from the university’s Citizen Lab, part of the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, stated.
A Microsoft spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the company is looking into the conclusion but "have not yet been able to fully analyze the findings."
"We are reaching out to Citizens Lab directly to get more information so that we can conduct any further investigation needed," the spokesperson said.
CHINA BLOCKS YELLEN'S SPEECH ON US NATIONAL SECURITY, BILATERAL ECONOMIC RELATIONSHIP
The Citizen Lab analyzed search results from Baidu, Baidu Zhidao, Bilibili, Douyin, Jingdong, Sogou and Weibo, as well as Bing, and found over 60,000 unique censorship rules used to partially or completely censor results.
"Given the strict regulatory environment which they face, users in China have limited choice in how they search for information," researchers wrote. "However, even among those limited choices, we nevertheless found important differences in the levels of censorship and in the availability of information among these search platforms."
Bing and Baidu, the largest Chinese competitor search platform, had the most restrictive measures: Baidu has more censorship rules, but Bing’s rules had broader interpretation, which resulted in more censored results from Bing on average.
Platforms must adhere to certain guidelines in China, which passed legislation and regulations to include specifications on what kinds of online content should be prohibited, including anything that might harm "the image of revolutionary leaders or heroes and martyrs."
HOUSE PASSES BIPARTISAN BILL STRIKING DOWN BIDEN'S CHINESE SOLAR HANDOUT
Other types of information or media that must remain restricted include anything that might look to incite resistance, to breaking the Constitution or laws or the implementation of administrative measures, to overthrow the government or socialist system, create division in the country, promote feudal superstitions and sexually suggestive material or injure "the reputation of state organs," among others.
A much more extensive list can be found in the Citizen Lab report.
The report also looked at the models that companies use to implement censorship, such as automated blocking based on words, such as used on Chinese social media platform WeChat.
In order to qualify as a censored result, the platform had to return a "unique notification that the user’s query contains sensitive content" – classified as "transparent censorship" – or the server "spuriously" omitted some or all search results despite the content matching the query – classified as "opaque censorship."
CHINESE HACKERS OUTNUMBER FBI CYBER PERSONNEL ‘BY AT LEAST 50 TO 1,’ WRAY TESTIFIES
The group then used an algorithm to identify and isolate the words or phrases that had triggered the censorship.
"By using this algorithmic technique, we can determine the exact keyword or combination of keywords necessary to trigger censorship of a censored string of text," researchers claimed. "The results are not statistical inferences, approximations or in any way probabilistic."
The results indicated that one in 18 names tested from Wikipedia created a censored response, half of which were outright censored on at least one of the eight platforms. The test of around 500,000 unique and previously confirmed censored keywords found 60,774 censored terms across all platforms.
The lab concluded that North American companies, such as Google, that intend to expand services into China’s market must consider whether they are comfortable with Beijing’s censorship of users’ political and religious rights.
"Unfortunately, our study provides a dismal data point concerning this argument," the study concluded. "It suggests that whatever longstanding human rights issues pervade in China, they will not be magically addressed by North American technology companies pursuing business in the Chinese market."
"In fact, rather than North American companies having a positive influence on the Chinese market, the Chinese market may be having a negative influence on these companies."
Microsoft previously faced criticism for its possible censorship of results in 2021 when users who were searching for pictures of the famous "Tank Man" of the Tiananmen Square protests found no results, even when searching from the U.S.

Astronomers discover 25 new repeating fast radio bursts
An international team of astronomers have discovered 25 new sources of repeating fast radio bursts – explosions in the sky from far beyond the Milky Way – doubling the total number of confirmed sources.
A study published in The Astrophysical Journal this week helped shed some light on the mysterious phenomena.
The researchers, including authors at McGill University in Quebec, gathered data, including from the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) radio telescope.
To find the new sources of FRBs, they used a new set of statistical tools developed to go over the data CHIME gathered between Sept. 30, 2019, and May 1, 2021.
"We combed through the data to find every repeating source detected so far, including the less obvious ones," Ziggy Pleunis, the first author of the paper who started working on the research as a PhD student at McGill University, said in a statement shared by the university. "These new tools were essential for this study because we can now accurately calculate the probability that two or more bursts coming from similar locations are not just a coincidence. It should be very useful for similar research going forward."
Adaeze Ibik, a PhD student in the David A. Dunlap Department for Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Toronto, said that the scientists had already identified likely associated galaxies for two of the FRBs.
NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON SAYS JAMES WEBB SPACE TELESCOPE IS WINDOW TO UNIVERSE 'NEVER BEFORE ACHIEVED'
The exact origins of FRBs are unknown, although astronomers do know that they come from outside of our galaxy and are most likely produced by the cinders left behind after stars die.
One "unexpected" finding in the study was contrary to previous beliefs: all FRBs may be repeaters instead of just one-offs. It said that many repeating FRBs are surprisingly inactive, producing fewer than one burst per week, and that one-off FRBs have not been observed for long enough until now for a second burst to be detected.
"FRBs are likely produced by the leftovers from explosive stellar deaths. By studying repeating FRB sources in detail, we can study the environments that these explosions occur in and understand better the end stages of a star's life," said Pleunis. "We can also learn more about the material that's being expelled before and during the star’s demise, which is then returned to the galaxies that the FRBs live in."

Ukraine: Russia launches cruise missiles into Kyiv and other cities, killing at least 23 people
Air raid sirens echoed throughout Ukraine’s capital city of Kyiv early Friday morning as Russia fired more than 20 cruise missiles and two drones at it and other parts of the country, leaving at least 23 people dead, three of which were children, officials said.
The missile barrage was Russia’s first direct attack on the capital since March 9.
In Kyiv, officials said the attack caused damage to residential buildings inside the city but that there were no reports of casualties.
Missiles struck the eastern city of Dnipro leaving at least two people dead, including a 31-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter. The attack wounded four people and damaged a house and business, according to regional Governor Serhii Lysak.
In Uman, located approximately 134 miles south of Kyiv, Cherkasy Governor Ihor Taburets said another missile strike left at least 20 people dead and 17 injured. Two 10-year-olds and a toddler were among twenty people who died as a result, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
Three children were rescued and nine people were sent to the hospital, Ukrainian police said. Local media reported a multi-story building caught fire and several floors were destroyed.
Emergency responders said that a 75-year-old woman was also among the other victims and died due to internal bleeding from the shock wave of the strike.
Ukraine's air force intercepted 11 cruise missiles and shot down two unmanned aerial vehicles, according to the Kyiv City Administration.
UKRAINE HAS RECEIVED OVER 98% OF COMBAT VEHICLES PROMISED BY NATO ALLIES, PARTNER COUNTRIES
The attacks came as NATO released a statement saying its allied countries have provided more than 98% of the combat vehicles promised to Ukraine.
The equipment, including more than 1,550 armored vehicles, 230 tanks and "vast amounts of ammunition" is intended to strengthen Kyiv's capabilities to launch counteroffensives to reclaim lost territories.
The allied countries have also trained and equipped more than nine new Ukrainian brigades, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said.
Some NATO partner countries, such as Sweden and Australia, have also provided armored vehicles.
"This will put Ukraine in a strong position to continue to retake occupied territory," Stoltenberg said in Brussels.
The overnight attacks also came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a "long and meaningful" phone call on Wednesday with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
It was their first known contact since Russia invaded Ukraine more than 400 days ago.
Beijing has mostly remained neutral in the conflict, urging both sides — and the world — to remain objective in its pursuit of peace.

Kansas City man freed from prison after murder conviction; sues police
A man who was freed from prison last year after his murder conviction was set aside alleges in a lawsuit that Kansas City police framed him in the killing.
Keith Carnes, 53, was released from prison in April 2022 after serving 18 years of a life sentence for first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
In a lawsuit filed Wednesday, Carnes alleges police and former Jackson County assistant prosecutor Amy McGowan coerced witnesses and issued fraudulent reports that led to his conviction in the 2003 shooting death of 24-year-old Larry White, in a Kansas City parking garage.
The Kansas City police department said it does not generally respond to ongoing lawsuits "to ensure fairness to all involved."
The Missouri Supreme Court set aside Carnes' conviction in 2022, in part because because an eyewitness account from a confidential informant that might have led to his exoneration was not given to Carnes’ defense team.
HUMAN TRAFFICKING FIGHT GETS BIG BOOST FROM AMERICA'S TRUCKERS
The Jackson County Prosecutor's office said it would not retrry Carnes because although its case review did not establish Carnes' innocence, there was insufficient evidence to convict him a second time.
In the lawsuit, Carnes' attorneys said a feared Kansas City drug dealer killed White in a dispute over territory and that officers who struggled to find witnesses decided to "pin" the murder on Carnes.
Two witnesses who identified Carnes as the killer recanted their testimony in 2014, alleging police and prosecutors pressured them to name Carnes as the shooter.
"The Kansas City police practices described in this lawsuit — fabricating evidence to secure convictions and propel officers’ own careers forward — amount to corruption," one of Carnes' attorneys, Locke Bowman, said in a statement.
One of the witnesses testified in 2021 that she recanted her original testimony after threats from Carnes’ supporters. The second witness testified at the same hearing that she could no longer remember the night of the murder clearly.
Prosecutors have said case evidence was "tainted from all directions."
Two other Kansas City area men who were exonerated in recent years after serving years in prison for murders they did not commit have also sued the Kansas City police department. Kevin Strickland, who spent more than 40 years in prison; and Ricky Kidd, who served nearly 25, each sued the department over its investigations.

Lori Vallow trial: Hear 'cult mom' and her sister speak after Vallow's children found dead
WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS GRAPHIC CONTENT
A recorded 2020 jailhouse phone call between so-called "cult mom" Lori Vallow and her sister, Summer Shiftlet, was played aloud in court on Wednesday as Shiflet took the stand in Vallow's murder trial.
Vallow and her husband, Chad Daybell, are charged with killing two of Vallow's children, J.J. Vallow and Tylee Ryan, around September 2019, and Tammy Daybell in October 2019. Prosecutors in Vallow's murder trial revealed on April 10 that Tammy died of asphyxiation.
"Either explain it, or don't expect me to believe it.… I'm not okay," Shiflet can be heard saying in the phone call obtained by FOX 10 Salt Lake City, which she made in the summer of 2020 after Idaho investigators found J.J. and Tylee's remains on Daybell's property that June. "I loved them with my whole heart. I would have taken J.J. and Tylee in a heartbeat, and everyone else would have, too. You know that."
A sobbing Shiflet questioned her sister's denial of her alleged involvement in J.J. and Tylee's murders during the phone call.
LORI VALLOW TRIAL: IDAHO CORONER REVEALS JJ VALLOW AND TYLEE RYAN'S CAUSES OF DEATH
"Lori, if you let this happen to them and put them in the ground like a piece of trash, I don't know you," Shiflet said, adding that she could have "taken" the children into her care instead.
LORI VALLOW TRIAL: WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT ‘CULT MOM’ ACCUSED OF KILLING 2 KIDS, HUSBAND'S FIRST WIFE
J.J. and Tylee went missing in September 2019 – around the time investigators believe they were murdered on Chad Daybell's Idaho property.
In November 2019, Vallow married Daybell in Hawaii. Photos show the newlyweds, who were bound by their shared apocalyptic religious beliefs, smiling and wearing leis on a beach while Vallow's children were still considered missing.
"Lori, you were dancing on the beach in Hawaii taking wedding photos," Shiflet says during the call.
Authorities eventually found Tylee and J.J.'s remains buried on Daybell's property in June 2020.
Ada County coroner Dr. Gareth Warren testified Wednesday that J.J. died of asphyxiation by a plastic bag around his head, and Tylee died of homicide by unspecified means, according to East Idaho News reporter Nate Eaton. It was the first time the public had heard the children's exact causes of death.
J.J. had GHB — an illegal substance commonly known as the "date rape drug" — in his body. It can occur naturally, and Warren said he was unable to determine whether GHB did occur naturally in J.J.'s body or whether he was given the drug, Eaton reported from the Ada County courtroom on Wednesday.
"[T]here's really no way for me to tell for sure whether this is just a naturally occurring product in the body that was there or if JJ was given GHB," Warren said.
Tylee had six sharp trauma impressions on her pelvis, FBI forensic anthropologist Angi Christensen testified on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, according to Eaton.
"The purpose of dismemberment is to break the body into smaller pieces. In this case, all of the sharp traumas are in the area of the pelvic region," Christensen said.
Vallow and Daybell allegedly collected J.J.'s and Tylee's Social Security benefits between Oct. 1, 2019, and Jan. 22, 2020, after their murder.
Authorities arrested Vallow in February 2020 and Daybell in June 2020.
The couple were indicted in late May 2021 on multiple counts each of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and grand theft by deception, and first-degree murder related to the deaths of Tylee, J.J. and Tammy Daybell, officials announced at the time. Arizona officials in June 2021 also indicted Vallow in the July 2019 murder of her ex-husband, Charles Vallow.

Florida Uber Eats murder: Roommate recalls fleeing in fear after 'loud noise' in suspect's room
The Florida roommate of an ex-felon accused of murdering and dismembering Uber Eats driver Randall Cooke fled to a hotel with his family after finding blood on the living room floor and hearing a loud noise in the middle of the night, according to court papers.
Cooke, 59, made a food delivery to a home on Moog Road in Holiday a little before 7 p.m. on April 19 and then vanished. His panicked wife, Kathy Cooke, called police.
Investigators say that "demonic" MS-13 gang member Oscar Solis, 30, dragged the stranger into the house and killed him, then cut up his body for "no reason."
Cooke's stepdaughter Melany Dzoba told Fox News Digital that he was "the perfect man who would never wish harm on anyone, and the closest thing I had to a dad."
WIFE OF FLORIDA MAN DISMEMBERED AFTER DELIVERING UBER EATS SENDS MESSAGE TO ACCUSED KILLER
The roommate was working his second job the evening of the killing and took his wife and their 6-year-old daughter with him. They returned home just before midnight, but the front door was oddly bolted shut from the inside.
He retrieved a hidden key to open a side garage door. The roommate tried to watch TV in his room, but the internet wasn't working, so he reset the router in the shared living room and noticed a red substance on the floor, the complaint alleges.
‘DEMONIC’ FLORIDA MAN MURDERS, DISMEMBERS UBER EATS DRIVER FOR ‘NO REASON’: SHERIFF
In the darkness, the roommate hadn't noticed the blood spatter near the kitchen table, on the couch and the entertainment center.
The couple told police that at 2:15 a.m. they were awoken by a "loud noise coming from Oscar Jr.'s bedroom."
The terrified family knew something was very wrong and "decided to pack their stuff and move into a hotel," leaving the house at about 8 a.m. On their way out, they saw Solis' driver.
Solis, who'd only been released from prison in Indiana in January, didn't have a car and his father hired a man to take him to the Omnia Blue strip club where Solis worked security, the roommate told investigators with the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
Solis' father, Oscar Solis Sr., was actually on the lease with the roommate but moved in with his girlfriend to give his son a place to live. The father had ordered the food delivery, unwittingly sending Cooke to his death.
Solis and his driver were captured on surveillance video April 20 carrying five trash bags, which investigators said contained Cooke's remains, to a garbage bin at the side of the house.
Inside the bags, investigators found Solis' blood-soaked clothes, Cooke's shirt "with numerous apparent puncture holes near the collar, lower left side and rib area," and a Coleman cooler containing some of his remains.
Cooke's car was located near the Solis' home and had a black trash bag in the trunk stuffed with "blood-soaked rags and paper towels" and a "card punch out receipt from Omnia Blue with Oscar Solis' name on it," court papers allege.
FLORIDA MAN CHARGED WITH KIDNAPPING, SEXUALLY BATTERING DOORDASH DRIVER
Investigators executed a search warrant on the Moog Road home and found blood all over Solis' room and bathroom – including in the sink, toilet bowl and a mop head in the shower. Cooke's car keys and wedding band were found in the house.
After Solis' arrest on charges of felony murder, robbery and violating his parole, police observed small cuts and abrasions on his hands and a scratch on his left bicep.
The victim's grief-stricken widow, Kathy Cooke, previously told Fox News Digital that Solis is going to "burn in hell for eternity. God will take care of him."
A manager at the Omnia Gentleman's Club described Solis as a great worker but said he had been terminated two weeks prior to the murder.
"He was kind of a little out of it. He was going through some stuff. We need people who can be more attentive," the manager, who gave his name as Nice, told Fox News Digital.
"I was actually surprised and shocked," he said of the twisted allegations against Solis. "He was showing no signs of being that way here. It’s pretty sad and crazy."

Biden's 2024 candidacy set to receive massive $75M boost from Democratic super PAC
Just one day after President Biden and Vice President Harris declared their 2024 re-election campaign, one of the largest Democratic super PACs in the country vowed to spend tens of millions of dollars backing their candidacy.
Priorities USA on Wednesday announced their intent to drop $75 million into backing Biden and Harris in battleground states such as Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
The group said in a press release that the money would go toward digital mobilization and persuasion programming, which they hope will have a coattail effect in the states for their competitive Senate races.
BIDEN CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCEMENT MAKES NO MENTION OF ANY BILLS HE SIGNED
"It is essential to remind voters of what's at stake in 2024, and to do so online," Priorities USA executive director Danielle Butterfield told Politico of their plans.
"Issues such as abortion access, protecting our climate, curbing gun control, making health care more affordable and making our economy work for every American will be the centerpieces of this campaign," Butterfield said.
The Biden boost kicked off Wednesday with a six-figure advertising campaign, Politico reported.
BIDEN, HARRIS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCE 2O24 REELECTION CAMPAIGN
Priorities USA, founded in 2011, has positioned itself as one of the leading Democratic super PACs in the country. During the 2020 cycle, the group hauled in around $140 million in contributions, spending nearly all the cash backing Biden and Democrats locked in tight Senate races.
Its top outside donors included Michael Bloomberg, hedge funder Donald Sussman, the Sen. Chuck Schumer-aligned Senate Majority PAC, the dark money Sixteen Thirty Fund and George Soros' Democracy PAC, federal filings show.
Biden enters the 2024 presidential election vastly unpopular among Americans. His approval rating hovers around 42%, according to FiveThirtyEight.

FBI sees fewer active shooter incidents, but 'casualties' on the rise
The FBI tracked fewer active shooter incidents in 2022 than last year, but casualties hit their highest point in the past five years, according to newly-released data.
The FBI's annual active shooter report found that there were 50 shootings that qualified as an "active shooter" incident in 2022, down from 61 incidents in 2021. Meanwhile, those 50 shootings caused 313 casualties, up from 243 the previous year and higher than any of the past five years.
The FBI has been tracking active shooter incidents on an annual basis since 2013, and it has retroactively compiled records going back to 2000.
By state, Texas had the highest number of incidents at six, doubling the runners-up. Arizona, Florida, Michigan and New York tied for second with three incidents each, according to the FBI.
SHOOTING IN LOUISVILLE LEAVES AT LEAST TWO DEAD, POLICE SAY
The FBI data shows that shootings took place on every day of the week, but were most common on Sundays, with 12 incidents in 2022.
Of the 50 active shooter events, just 13 met the federal definition for a "mass killing incident." And of the shooters themselves, 47 were male, one was female, one was identified as nonbinary and the last was unidentified.
TWO INJURED IN SHOOTING AT LINCOLN UNIVERSITY IN PENNSYLVANIA
The FBI apprehended 29 of the shooters, but law enforcement killed seven; armed citizens killed 2, and nine shooters committed suicide. Three of the shooters remain at large.
In more than half of the incidents, 52%, the shooter had no known connection to the site of their attack nor any of their victims.

10 useful Mac keyboard shortcuts you need to know
Shortcuts. The word itself carries a heavy weight in our household. Growing up, my parents relentlessly instilled in me the idea that one must work hard to succeed. They always said, "shortcuts are for the lazy and the uninspired." It was that simple.
Oh, Mom, if you could see me now. I mean, she can. She would just have to drive several miles in LA traffic. If she were to endure that agony, she could witness her son taking all the shortcuts. Instead of breaking her heart, however, I would break the good news.
Shortcuts are a lifesaver, and for all MacBook lovers, they will guarantee an increase in productivity and a decrease in headaches. Okay, I can't promise that, although what I can promise is by the end of this brief article, you'll be an equipped keyboard warrior ready for any scuffle.
The MacBook offers a wide range of keyboard shortcuts that save you time and effort and make your workflow smoother. Keyboard shortcuts are key combinations that perform a specific action on your MacBook, and they can complete tasks quickly and efficiently without using your mouse or trackpad. This means you can work faster and more comfortably, reducing the risk of repetitive strain injuries (finger cramps are the worst!)
10 Keyboard Shortcuts
1. Open Spotlight Search
First, we have Command + Spacebar, which opens up Spotlight search. It's a great way to find files, launch apps quickly, or even search the web.
2. Switch between applications
Next, we have Command + Tab, which lets you easily switch between open applications. It's like having a superpower to multitask on your Mac.
3. Screenshot your entire screen
If you're someone who loves to take screenshots, then you'll love the Command + Shift + 3 shortcut. It captures and saves your entire screen as an image file on your desktop.
If you only want to grab a portion of your screen, use Command + Shift + 4 instead.
Drag the crosshair
to select the area of the screen to capture. To move the selection, press and hold Space bar while dragging. To cancel taking the screenshot, press the Esc (Escape) key.
To take the screenshot, release your mouse or trackpad button.
If you see a thumbnail in the corner of your screen, click it to edit the screenshot or wait for the screenshot to save to your desktop.
4. Navigate the Menu with your keyboard
If you're a keyboard warrior who hates using the mouse, you'll appreciate Control + F2, which focuses on the menu bar, so you can navigate through it using your keyboard.
On many Mac keyboards, you may also need to press the fn key located at the bottom left of the keyboard. So you would press fn+Control+F2. You will see the apple icon in the upper left-hand corner highlighted. Then in order to navigate the menu, use your left, right, up and down keys to locate the menu item you want to select.
5. Move a file to the trash
Next, we have Command + Delete, which moves a file to the trash, and Shift + Command + Delete, which empties the trash. It's a quick and easy way to keep your Mac clutter-free.
6. Re-open a browser tab you accidentally just closed
Have you ever accidentally closed a tab in your web browser and wished there was an undo button for that? Well, there is! Just press Command + Shift + T to reopen the last closed tab. It's a real time-saver and can prevent you from losing important information.
7. Force applications to quit
Another helpful shortcut is Command + Option + Esc, which opens the Force Quit Applications window. It's like a panic button when an app freezes or becomes unresponsive, and you need to force it to quit.

8. Bold, italicize, and/or underline
If you work with text a lot, you'll appreciate Command + B, Command + I, and Command + U. These are the shortcuts for bold, italic, and underline, respectively, and they work in most text-editing applications.
9. Find and insert an emoji or special character
Need to add an emoji or special character to your document or email? This command opens up the Character Viewer, so you can easily find and insert the symbol you need: Control + Command + Space.
HOW TO BACK UP YOUR MAC COMPUTER
10. Create a new folder
Last but definitely not least, we have, Command + Shift + N. This one creates a new folder in Finder. It's a great way to keep your files organized and tidy without clicking through multiple menus.
Final Thoughts
Those are 10 of my favorite and most used shortcuts that guarantee a more comfortable experience with your MacBook. By using these commands, you can save time, increase productivity, and reduce strain on your hands and fingers. Give them a try and see how they can make your life easier!

Dogs fly across Atlantic on private jet: Travel option was 'no brainer,' says owner
A British woman paid an eye-popping amount of money to fly her dogs to the United States from London, saying that it was actually cheaper than putting her pooches in cargo.
Maddie Young, 31, recently paid £8,000 (about $10,000 in U.S. currency) to fly her two dogs from London to the United States in a private jet, the news agency SWNS reported.
The jet was replete with food, treats and personalized toys, said SWNS.
DOGS CRY TEARS OF JOY WHEN REUNITED WITH THEIR OWNERS: NEW STUDY
Young and her husband, Stephen Whitworth, 32, moved to Brooklyn, New York, in January 2023.
The couple's two dogs — Violet, a 12-year-old pug, and Olive, a one-year-old golden retriever — initially had to stay behind in the United Kingdom.
After researching how to safely bring the dogs to their new home across the Atlantic, Young was quoted £6,000- £12,000 (about $7,400 to $14,800 in U.S. dollars) per dog to fly the pooches as cargo on an airline, she told SWNS.
"The quotes were crazily expensive," Young told SWNS.
The issue was further complicated by the fact that Violet's breed is prone to breathing problems due to its face structure, she also noted.

"We were limited as airlines don't like to fly flat-face breeds," said Young.
Another option was to bring the dogs to the United States on an ocean liner — but there was a two-year wait for availability, Young also said.
Undeterred, Young "googled lots of stuff" and discovered a Facebook group seeking to organize chartered flights and splitting the cost among them, she told SWNS.
Initially, Young paid £10,000 (about $12,400 in U.S. dollars) for seats for her husband, herself and the two dogs to fly to the U.S. in April 2023.
The price was knocked down to £8,000 after the group was given a discount for the full flight, noted SWNS.
LOKI, A WICHITA SHELTER'S LONGEST RESPIDENT, SEEKS FOREVER HOME WITH BIG YARD
"The experience was so smooth," she said. "There were eight dogs and 10 humans."
It was a "no brainer" to spring for the private jet as it was cheaper than sending the dogs as cargo, Young said, adding that she felt it was safer than putting Violet, an older dog, in the cargo hold.
"There’s no shame for people who put them in cargo," said Young. "That’s fine if it works for you."
Despite everything, there were jitters before the journey.
"I was nervous," Young admitted, as she had "never flown private before."
Those fears evaporated once the plan was in the air, she told SWNS.

"All the dogs were super well-behaved," she said. "They mostly slept, chilled and chewed bones."
The dogs and their owners arrived "safely and stylishly" in New York, said SWNS — and are now settling nicely into their new home.
"It was a great experience," said Young of the private jet experience.

'American Idol' fans criticize Katy Perry and Luke Bryan after 'rude' reaction: They need to 'apologize'
Katy Perry and Luke Bryan were criticized by "American Idol" viewers after they chose to encourage people to vote rather than give a contestant feedback after a performance.
Instead of responding to We Ani's performance of "Skyfall," Perry and Bryan apparently emphasized that America should be voting for their favorites, which led some viewers to call the judges out for being "rude."
"Normally, nothing Katy Perry says bothers me as she's just known for her sense of humor and quips. Bit [sic] her dissing of We Ani? THAT was just rude," one user wrote on Twitter.
‘AMERICAN IDOL’ AUDIENCE BOOS KATY PERRY FOR ANOTHER QUESTIONABLE CRITIQUE
A user responded: "I agree. It was uncalled for. She may as well had said We Ani didn’t deserve to be there, and she absolutely DOES! The girl can sing."
"@AmericanIdol @katyperry just made it clear with hers words and her face that she didn’t think We ani deserved to be up there! #alittlerude," another user wrote.
Bryan and Perry were asked by some Twitter users to apologize.
"As much as I love them, I hope @katyperry and @lukebryan apologize to We Ani for not letting her have her moment and telling America they need to vote instead of applauding her performance," someone wrote. "Ryan said move [sic] votes than last season came in, so obviously America voted!!!"
"Really liked you, but you and Katy were very rude to We Ani," another user said after "American Idol" shared a selfie of the country music singer to Twitter.

This isn't the first time Perry has caught backlash for her reaction to an "American Idol" contestant's performance.
Perry encouraged a contestant to not use glitter, which elicited boos from the audience.
"Yes, yes! Katy got booed," Bryan said. "Katy got booed!"
"First time in six seasons, woo-hoo," Perry responded. "But what I'm saying is that I'd like you to flip the script. I think we want to be like, pulled in by our hearts too. I'd love to see that, and I think America might too," she told the contestant.
Perry also faced backlash after she was accused of mom-shaming contestant Sara Beth Liebe. The contestant left the show shortly after but claimed it didn't have anything to do with Perry's comments.

‘Yellowstone’ actresses reveal ‘heavy days’ on set covered in dirt, blood, and ‘cow poo poo’
Life in the world of the hit series "Yellowstone" can get messy, and as some of the show's actresses revealed, so can being on set.
In People’s 2023 Most Beautiful issue, "Yellowstone" and "1923" stars Kelsey Asbille, Jen Landon, Aminah Nieves, Piper Perabo and Julia Schlaepfer got cleaned up and glammed up as they revealed the "dirty" secrets of being on set.
Landon joked it gets so messy, sometimes showering seems useless.
"At the end of some days, it's like, what's the point? Because you were in cow poo poo all day and you're going to be in cow poo poo the next day."
"There were days when we were literally covered in s--- from head to toe," she added.
To help with that, Landon, who plays ranch hand Teeter on "Yellowstone," travels with a portable shower to get clean anytime.
‘YELLOWSTONE’ FUTURE UP IN THE AIR AS CAST MEMBER REVEALS, ‘I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON’
"I travel with this tub device that I bought on Amazon and you blow up the ring, and you can put it in a tiny shower and sit in this soaking tub," Landon explained to the outlet. "I have to be in the bath every night."
As Monica Dutton, Asbille said, "there's usually dirt and blood involved" when she films. "Those are heavy days and because she's really going through it," she said adding that when filming wraps "there is a physical and emotional cleanse."
Perabo plays vegan activist Summer Higgins on the series, and said when she is done for the day, "I wipe the blood off with a hot washcloth and I go home."
She explained that she cleans up before heading out "In case I have to stop and get gas or something."
"It's hard to explain in the little town where we work, if your face is covered in blood, one of those guys will ask if you need some help," she noted.
"Yellowstone" films in Missoula, Montana, as of 2020. The town’s population is just under 75,000.
Schlaepfer stars as Alexandra on "1923," part of which filmed in Africa.
She told People she loved both the filming on the "Yellowstone" spin off and the chance to dress up for the Beautiful Issue photo shoot.
"We are so dirty at the end of every filming day, but it is the greatest feeling in the world," she said. "I'm used to being very dirty and soaking wet and riding horses, so it's so much fun to get all glammed up and dressed up. To put on these beautiful clothes and feel confident and feel sexy is such a nice switch up and something I don't do every day."
Nieves, who also stars in "1923" as Teonna Rainwater, shared filming a recent scene for the series left her not just dirty but completely soaked.

"We're in the little stream. You probably couldn't tell that I was completely drenched, but [I was] completely. I would walk and my shoes would squeak. You could see water come out of the little holes. It was bad. It was very dirty," she recalled.
Despite the uncomfortable conditions, Nieves was committed.
"You want to get the shot and you're not really thinking about it too much. I enjoyed it," she said, adding, "I don't know. I like the dirt, the grime."
"Yellowstone" and "1923" are both available on Paramount+.

Illinois home invasion suspect caught after police K9 tracks him down over a mile away, punches dog, cops say
A home invasion suspect was tracked down a mile by a police K-9 in Illinois after allegedly breaking into a woman's home and beating her.
A 36-year-old woman was on Face Time with a friend around 8:30 p.m. in her home in Gurnee, a Chicago suburb, when Joshua Simmons, 34, appeared behind her in the video, the Lake County Sheriff's office said.
The woman screamed and the call disconnected, authorities said. When deputies arrived, she had been "battered" by the intruder, investigators said.
CHICAGO WOMAN CHARGED AFTER DRAGGING BOYFRIEND WITH CAR, FLIPPING VEHICLE IN CRASH: POLICE
"Fortunately, the victim was on a telephone call when this incident occurred, and her friend was able to call 911," Lake County Sheriff John D. Idleburg said in a statement. "If it were not for the quick thinking of the victim’s friend, this situation could have ended much differently. I am proud of the work of our Patrol Division and Sheriff’s K9 Team who worked quickly to locate and apprehend this violent offender."
Simmons, a former acquaintance of the woman, forced his way into the home and hit her in the face and neck. She declined medical treatment. Simmons' vehicle was found a block from the home.
A police K-9 was used to track down Simmons. After about a mile, he was found in a residence but refused to surrender, authorities said. The K-9, named Dax, bit Simmons on his arm and Simmons struck the dog, police said.
"Simmons subsequently surrendered," the sheriff's office said. "K9 Dax was unfazed by Simmons’ punch."
Simmons was taken to a hospital for treatment for a dog bite and released to deputies. He has been charged with felony home invasion, domestic battery, criminal trespass to a residence, striking a police K-9 and resisting arrest.
NYC police say woman was mistakenly believed to be kidnapped in Brooklyn, has been found safe
New York City police say a woman believed to have been kidnapped in the city's Brooklyn borough has been found safe – and that the incident was a misunderstanding.
Police previously said a female was kidnapped by an unknown male suspect at the intersection of Avenue W and Stillwell Avenue around 1:45 a.m. Friday, releasing photos in the search for the two individuals.
"The male and female depicted in the video were both found," the NYPD later told Fox News on Monday. "This incident was investigated by the NYPD Major Case Squad. Both parties were known to each other and it was deemed to have not been a crime."

The incident followed a recent case where a New York City woman late last month was abducted, beaten, and raped inside a bus in Staten Island.
The suspect in that case, 30-year-old Alexander Isaac, is facing several charges, including kidnapping, rape, assault, unlawful imprisonment, and criminal possession of a weapon.

Mexican judge orders Chihuahua state immigration director to stand trial for deadly fire
A judge on Saturday ordered the immigration director of Mexico's northern border state of Chihuahua to stand trial Saturday on charges of homicide, injuries and failure to perform his duties, for last month's deadly fire at a migrant detention center.
The judge ordered the director, Salvador González, held in prison pending trial.
Judge Juan José Chávez said there was evidence that González failed to do his duty to protect the migrants. Forty migrants died in the March 27 fire in the border city of Ciudad Juarez, after a migrant allegedly set fire to foam mattresses to protest a supposed transfer.
"In the end, everything depends on the head" official, Chávez said. "Not complying with standards does have its results."
Five other officials of the country’s National Immigration Institute, a guard at the center and the Venezuelan migrant accused of starting the blaze are already in custody facing homicide charges.
MEXICO MIGRANT CAMP TENTS SET ABLAZE ACROSS TEXAS BORDER
The step is significant, in part because González is a retired Mexican navy rear admiral. He is the highest ranking official to be held over for trial in the case, though prosecutors have said they will press charges against the immigration agency’s top national official, Francisco Garduño, who is scheduled to make a court appearance April 21.
Federal prosecutors have said Garduño was remiss in not preventing the disaster in Ciudad Juarez despite earlier indications of problems at his agency’s detention centers. Prosecutors said government audits had found "a pattern of irresponsibility and repeated omissions" in the immigration institute.
The fire in Ciudad Juarez, across the border from El Paso, Texas, quickly filled the facility with smoke. No one let the migrants out.

Knicks take 3-1 series lead with Game 4 win over Cavaliers
Jalen Brunson scored 29 points, RJ Barrett had 26 and the New York Knicks took a 3-1 lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers in their first-round series with a 102-93 victory on Sunday.
Josh Hart moved into the starting lineup and added 19 points and seven rebounds for the fifth-seeded Knicks, who can reach the second round for the first time since 2013 with a victory in Cleveland on Wednesday. New York would host Game 6, if necessary, on Friday at what has been a deafening Madison Square Garden during the last two games that were dominant defensively.

New York forced Cleveland All-Star Donovan Mitchell into one of the worst games of his postseason career, finishing with just 11 points on 5-for-18 shooting. Darius Garland had 23 points and 10 assists for the Cavs, bouncing back nicely after going 4 for 21 in the Knicks' Game 3 romp. Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert each scored 14 points.
Barrett was only 6 for 25 in the two games in Cleveland but has been outstanding back at home, where fans chanted his name in the second half. He had five straight points to break the Knicks free from a 75-all tie, then added another basket before Hart scored to push it to 90-81 midway during a stretch when Cleveland could only manage two baskets in more than four minutes.
After limiting the Cavs to the lowest point total in an NBA game this season on Friday, the Knicks led most of the way in this one to reach the verge of the Eastern Conference semifinals for the first time since beating Boston in 2013.
NBA WON’T SUSPEND GRIZZLIES’ DILLON BROOKS AFTER BELOW-THE-BELT BLOW TO LEBRON JAMES: REPORT
They've only made it back to the playoffs once since then, falling in five games to Atlanta in 2021. But this team is more complete, thanks largely signing Brunson last summer and acquiring Hart from Portland during this season.
Starting together for the first time since they were college teammates at Villanova, that duo combined for 20 of the Knicks' 30 points in the first quarter, which ended with them leading by seven.
New York pushed it into double digits in the second and Brunson's 3-pointer midway through the period made it 46-31. The Knicks were ahead 54-45.
But Garland got the first two baskets of the third quarter, set up Cleveland's next three scores, then had the Cavs' next two field goals to tie it at 59. His three-point play gave Cleveland a 66-63 lead and he had 11 points and five assists in the period, before Brunson made a 3-pointer with 6.2 seconds left that sent the Knicks to the fourth with a 73-71 edge.
TIP-INS

Maria Bartiromo speaks exclusively with Speaker Kevin McCarthy on his Debt Plan
SPEAKER MCCARTHY SLAMS CHUCK SCHUMER’S SENATE FOR ITS LACK OF INACTION ON THE DEBT CEILING
MARIA BARTIROMO: Well, Congressman, look, after you pass this bill, it goes to the Senate. What are your expectations for the Senate? And your approval ratings are up, certainly among Republicans and and both sides. Congrats on that, on keeping these promises. In terms of foreign policy, I know you're headed to Israel at the end of the week as well. But real quick, your expectations for the Senate on this debt deal.
KEVIN MCCARTHY: Well, the Senate has to do something because under Senator Schumer, the only things I've watched him do is name March, the Maine Maple Sirup and thank Yukon for winning a basketball tournament. They haven't proposed anything. They can't. They couldn't even have their senators showing up for work. I mean, the Senate has done nothing. So you'll see the House Republicans are the only ones who are being responsible. We sat together, we asked to meet with the president starting February 1st. He ignored us. We will take action to make us fiscally stronger, less dependent on China curve. The inflation the Democrats brought, but also put us on a path where we'll grow this economy even stronger, make us energy independent, be able to get cut the red tape so we can build things in America.

GORDON CHANG REVEALS HOW CHINA AND RUSSIA’S WAGNER GROUP ARE FUNDING INSTABILITY IN SUDAN
MARIA BARTIROMO: Yeah. By the way, Gordon, this morning we're seeing the US embassy staff lifted out of Sudan. There is increasing violence there. You think China's influence is part of this?
GORDAN CHANG: Yes. We have to ask that question because the Russian mercenaries, the Wagner Group, have been destabilizing Sudan. Now, Putin doesn't have the money to do that. He's got his hands full with Ukraine. And so the question is, who is paying for these Wagner mercenaries? We know that China and Russia cooperate throughout Africa and throughout elsewhere. So we need to start asking that question, where is this money coming from? And until we start asking that question, we're not going to get to a solution in North Africa.
AI'S THREAT TO HUMANITY WILL BE FAR GREATER IF CHINA MASTERS IT FIRST: GORDON CHANG
REP. JAMES COMER ON JOE BIDEN’S SIX SPECIFIC DECISIONS LEADING TO PAYMENTS MADE TO THE BIDEN FAMILY
JAMES COMER: There are six specific decisions that Joe Biden made, either as vice president or president that are very concerning to us that we believe could potentially lead back to payments that were made to these LLC that were then laundered down to the Biden family members. So you have to look at the number of the losses and look at the transactions and look at the limited bank records that we have to realize the great lengths to which this family went to try to disguise the sender of the money and then deceive the IRS. So, you know, when we hear about the Biden family, lawyers are meeting with the DOJ to talk about a potential indictment of Hunter Biden. I want to be very clear, Maria. It would be impossible for the Department of Justice to just cherry pick Hunter Biden for an indictment and not do anything to the eight other Biden family members because they were essentially doing the same thing and receiving the same types of payments from our adversaries around the world that Hunter Biden was doing.
BIDEN FAMILY RECEIVED MORE THAN $1M FROM HUNTER ASSOCIATE AFTER 2017 CHINA WIRE: HOUSE OVERSIGHT
MARIA BARTIROMO: So they were trying to make it look like the numbers were lower because they were dispersing money to other family members. How many family members were involved? Right.
JAMES COMER: Well, right now we have nine, but I believe in the end that number will be at least 12. I mean, this was the Biden family influence peddling scheme. And, you know, when people say, well, they were involved in ventures around the world, I haven't found a legitimate business on the Biden in Maria. I found legitimate businesses that that were paying the LLC, that were then turning around and laundering the money back to the Bidens. But I haven't found any legitimate business dealings on the Biden. It looks like if there was a legitimate business dealings in any of these LLC, it was influence peddling. And, you know, if you want to get technical and if you want to get to a legal term, that's called being a foreign agent. They weren't registered as a foreign agent. And I'm sure the ethics laws would prevent immediate family members of high ranking government officials from being foreign agents. Either way, this is bad. There are more laws that appear to me that have been broken. They just tax evasion. And there are a lot more Bidens involved than just the president's son and his brother.

Dem Rep. Dingell admits she is 'worried' American money is flowing to terrorism: 'We need to ask questions'
Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Minn., admitted Sunday she is "worried" American taxpayer money may be flowing to terrorist groups, following a bombshell claim by Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction John Sopko that he could not guarantee taxpayer dollars are not funding the Taliban.
"Well, I sincerely hope that our money is not flowing to terrorism," Dingell told "Fox News Sunday" host Shannon Bream. "I think the Pentagon's got to do a better job of showing us that that is not happening. But I am worried."
Dingell's statements come just a few days after Sopko testified to lawmakers on the House Oversight Committeer regarding the Biden administration's "unprecedented" lack of cooperation with his watchdog office.
"I've spent so much of my career trying to help the women in Afghanistan. And what is happening to them now makes me so devastated that we need to ensure that those dollars are going where they're intended to do in a way that we can get them there," Dingell said. "And I think we need to ask questions and get answers."

During his testimony, Sopko warned that the Taliban is likely taking funds meant to assist the people of Afghanistan. The funds include billions of dollars meant for food aid, health care, agriculture, civil society and human rights.
"Unfortunately, as I sit here today, I cannot assure this committee or the American taxpayer we are not currently funding the Taliban, nor can I assure you that the Taliban are not diverting the money we are sending from the intended recipients, which are the poor Afghan people," Sopko said during his opening remarks.
The inspector general specifically called on lawmakers to end "obfuscation and delay" by the State Department in turning over information that would allow him to conduct full oversight over the more than $8 billion in U.S. funding made available to the Afghan people since President Biden withdrew military forces from the country in 2021.
A SIGAR report released prior to Sopko's testimony detailed the "serious risks" posed to U.S.-funded programs in Afghanistan, of which Sopko identified Taliban interference with the United Nations and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) as the top concern for oversight entities.
According to the report, the Taliban accesses international funds by levying customs charges on imports and taxes and fees on NGOs. The report also details how rampant corruption and interference from the Taliban have gravely undermined the official U.S. policy of continuing to support the Afghan people.

Reddit user slammed for wanting to sell a family heirloom in order to pay for a 'lavish' destination wedding
Reddit users nearly universally criticized a man who floated the idea of selling a family heirloom he inherited to pay for his future "memorable" wedding.
"AITA for selling a family heirloom to pay for my destination wedding?" asked Reddit user "throwaway205813" in a Friday, April 21, post in Reddit's "Am I the A--hole" subreddit.
In the post, the writer explained that he's a 39-year-old man who is engaged to a 38-year-old woman, and they are getting married this summer. He did not share his location.

"We both want to have quite a lavish wedding at a winery in another state," wrote throwaway205813.
"The two of us agree that it's the most important occasion in our lives, so we should make it as memorable as possible," he said.
While both he and his fiancée have "stable jobs and a good amount of savings," that will not cover their "admittedly ambitious" plans for their wedding.
In January, the man's father died, he said — leaving him a "very valuable (think five figures) family heirloom."
In later replies in the thread, throwaway205813 explained that it's a "very old painting by a lesser-known artist."
He added, "I'm not much for big family traditions, so although it's a nice thing to have, I'm not massively attached to it. I have plenty of other good memories of my father and I don't need a fancy heirloom to remember him by."
His younger brother, however, is a "huge history nerd" — and is quite attached to the painting, said throwaway205813.
"He was very upset by my father's decision in the will (the reason it went to me and not to him is that this has been traditionally passed to firstborn sons)," wrote the man.
"My fiancée and I don't plan to have children, and I think he assumed therefore that he (or his children) would be in line to get it if I were to pass away."
Instead, "after some discussion," throwaway205813 and his fiancée decided they would like to sell the painting to pay for the wedding.
This did not go over well with his younger brother — who was supposed to be the best man at the wedding.
He "was furious when he found out, and said he wanted nothing to do with the wedding anymore," the man wrote.
"He thinks my wife-to-be and I are behaving like spoiled brats."
Additionally, the younger brother "convinced my uncle and cousins not to come to the wedding either," the man revealed.
Since his parents are deceased, this means "virtually none of my family will attend the wedding, which I'm really upset about."
He wrote as well, "I think since I legally inherited the heirloom, I can do what I want with it. I think he's just upset because I ruined his expectations of one day inheriting it, but since my uncle and cousins agree with him enough that they're not coming to the wedding, I'm not so sure I'm in the right. AITA?"
Fox News Digital reached out to throwaway205813 for comment.
On the AITA subreddit, people can reply to posts and indicate the poster is "NTA" ("Not the A--hole"), "YTA" ("You're the A--hole"), "NAH" ("No A--holes Here") or "ESH" ("Everyone Sucks Here").
Users can "upvote" responses they think are helpful and "downvote" ones that are not.
The overwhelming majority of the more than 4,000 replies to the post deemed throwaway205813 as "YTA" — and the AITA subreddit even tagged the post as "A--hole."
"YTA. You are being very selfish and shortsighted," said Reddit user "lihzee" in the top-upvoted reply.
"In your late 30s, you can't afford [a lavish wedding] without hocking something important in your family? Yikes," added lihzee.
"Technically you can sell it because it’s yours, but YTA for caring more about a ridiculously lavish wedding that will break the bank than you do for your relationship with your brother or your dad's tradition," said Redditor "Pepper-90210" in another top comment.

"If your dad had known that you were going to sell it, he would have left it to your brother. I hope your lavish wedding is worth it to you," said Pepper-90210.
One married Redditor called throwaway205813 "extremely shortsighted" for wanting to sell the painting.
"Also, (throwaway205813), I have had so many better days in my marriage than my wedding day and a lot of them were free," said a Redditor with the username "somewhatclevr."
"You are selling a piece of your family's history and estranging your family for one event. Stop being extremely shortsighted. The world does not revolve around you," wrote "somewhatclevr."
Redditor Hazelsmom64 replied with her own story in another top-upvoted comment, saying that she, too, had received a priceless heirloom.
The heirloom "passed from mother to daughter on and on," wrote Hazelsmom64, adding that she was the last person to receive it.
"It came over on the Mayflower. From me, it's going to a museum in Massachusetts," she wrote. "You could have given it to your brother. People hate destination weddings."
Another user asked throwaway205813 what his late father would say if he knew the son would be selling the painting to pay for a wedding.
Throwaway205813's said he was "honestly not sure" how his father would react.

"He and my brother used to geek out over it together a lot, so I could see him being upset," he wrote.
"I think he was pretty torn that tradition dictated the heirloom go to me and not my brother. But he was also a very understanding man so I could see him being OK with it."

This, also, did not go over well with other Reddit users.
"So he didn't even really want you to have it. Wow. You're a huge AH," said lihzee, responding with another comment.
