By Anthony Boadle BRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazil's business-friendly presidential candidate Geraldo Alckmin unveiled a campaign ad against gun violence on Thursday that targeted his far-right pro-gun adversary Jair Bolsonaro. The ad, copied from a British ad used in the 2007 "Guns kill: Kill guns" campaign, shows a bullet smashing through a glass of milk, books and fruit, stopping before a child's head with the message "Bullets are not the solution." The front-runner for the Oct. 7 election, Bolsonaro advocates easing gun controls to allow Brazilians to own guns and defend themselves from criminals, besides giving police carte blanche to shoot and kill armed suspects.

First Yellowstone-area grizzly hunt in 40 years blocked by federal judge
(Reuters) - A federal judge in Montana on Thursday issued a court order temporarily blocking the first Yellowstone-area grizzly bear hunts in more than 40 years, siding with native American groups and environmentalists seeking to restore the animals' protected status. The 14-day restraining order came two days before Wyoming and Idaho were scheduled to open licensed grizzly hunts allowing as many as 23 bears in the two states to be shot and killed for sport. Groups opposing the hunts were still awaiting a decision on the larger question of whether the federal government should return grizzlies to protection under the Endangered Species Act

Brazil's top court upholds unrestricted outsourcing
BRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazil's Supreme Court voted 7-4 on Thursday to allow companies to outsource all types of jobs, a ruling that confirms the constitutionality of rules set last year under a law that was fiercely opposed by unions. The decision will help employers resolve some 4,000 pending lawsuits against the outsourcing of core jobs in companies, cases that were based on an adverse ruling by a superior court in 2011

Dam nation: Big state projects spared in China's hydro crackdown
By David Stanway LESHAN, China (Reuters) - In a mountain village in southwest China's Sichuan province, authorities have demolished seven small dam projects this year along a river to clear illegal developments in a new nature reserve. Despite debt woes, Africa still sees China as best bet for financing
By Joe Bavier and Christian Shepherd JOHANNESBURG/BEIJING (Reuters) - A wave of African nations looking to restructure debt with China on the eve of a major Beijing summit provides a reality check for the continent, where most countries still view Chinese lending as the best bet to develop their economies. China has denied engaging in "debt trap" diplomacy, but President Xi Jinping is likely to use next week's gathering of African leaders to offer a new round of financing, following a pledge of $60 billion at the last summit three years ago. Ethiopia and Zambia, heavy borrowers from China, have expressed desire to restructure that debt, while bankers believe Angola and Congo Republic have already done so, though details of such deals are sparse.

Trinidad oil union to call general strike if refinery shuts down
PORT OF SPAIN (Reuters) - Trinidad and Tobago's Oilfields Workers' Trade Union (OWTU) on Thursday threatened a general strike if the island's government does not rescind a decision to shut down the country's lone oil refinery, operated by state-run Petrotrin. The 150,000-barrel-per-day Point-a-Pierre refinery was purchasing up to 100,000 bpd of foreign crude to produce fuels for the Caribbean island
